Micro TIG Wire Balling

Micro TIG wire balling is commonly used to consolidate stranded wire, often as a precursor to resistance welding.

The process begins with a micro arc that is struck between a TIG torch electrode and the stranded wire.

Consolidating Stranded Wires

Upon arc strike, controlled current begins to flow into the stranded wire, creating heat and burning it back along its length. The degree and rate of burn back can be readily controlled using adjustments to the welding period and programmed current level.

Once the wire has been balled, the retained wire strands can easily be resistance welded without splay.
